- 책소개
-
The first mass market book to chronicle the history of one of the world’s leading contemporary art galleries, it includes the work of 174 of the most important artists of the last twenty years. This will be essential to all collectors, libraries and institutions as well as anyone with an interest in contemporary art.
Charles Saatchi opened his gallery at Boundary Road north London in 1985, since then he has moved twice, first to London’s County Hall on the South Bank in 2003 and finally to a new gallery which opened in October 2008 at the Duke of York’s Headquarters in the Kings Road Chelsea. Over the years The Saatchi Gallery has launched the careers of many young artists, who have since become household names.
For the first time one book, The History of the Saatchi Gallery, chronicles the breadth of work exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery from Lucien Freud to Damien Hirst , Andy Warhol to Cy Twombly and Richard Serra, to name but a few. of the 28 sections of the book of reflect different aspects of the exhibitions which have been held at The Saatchi Gallery from 1985 to 2010. Illustrated with over 900 images in full colour, a gatefold of Jeff Koons’ Rabbit and archive shots of the shows in their different gallery locations, the book is a unique record. The commissioned essays by leading art critics Richard Cork and Brian Sewell, Sir Norman Rosenthal, former Secretary of Exhibitions at The Royal Academy of Art, and actor Steve Martin are cloth bound and tipped in.
