- 요약: Arranged by Frank Foster and recorded by Diane Schuur with the Count Basie Orchestra in 1987, Deedles' Blues features an infectious melody with some appropriately sultry lyrics by Los Angeles-based vocalist/songwriter Morgan Ames. Between Schuur's powerhouse vocals and the Basie band operating at peak efficiency, this is an outstanding feature for both your band as a whole as well as your star female singer. Coming in at a powerful roar, the band sets the stage for Schuur's entrance at measure 5. The first chorus features rhythm section, vocals, and some solo fills from trumpeter Bob Ojeda, before the rest of the band gradually joins in on the fun over the next two choruses. The key moves up a whole step at measure 41 for a single chorus of ensemble shout - and shout the ensemble does, playing at full strength for the entire stretch before the vocals return for another chorus at measure 53. Foster himself decides to jump in at measure 65 for a couple quick tenor sax solo choruses over the top of some simple, but catchy and provocative ensemble riffs. Schuur returns once again at measure 89 for the final couple choruses. Although the ensemble accompaniment is still mostly riff-based, the writing during this section is noticeably denser and more complex than before. Some band vocal interjections occur around Schuur at measure 101, with things continuing to build in volume and edge over a Bb pedal before a brief semi-vocal break leads into the climactic final blast. A note: Foster's solo is not indicated in either of the tenor saxophone parts, as he was leading the Basie band at this time and did not actually play in the section. Basie band leader, Frank Foster, won a Grammy for his arrangement. Written for 5 saxes, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, guitar, piano, bass and drums. Key of Db modulating to Eb. This new edition was prepared from Frank Foster's pencil score as well as the original parts used by the Count Basie Band.
